Using wood is naturally better for our environment because it helps with climate change in two very important ways. First, growing trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store the carbon so efficiently that about half the dry weight of a tree is carbon. This carbon remains ‘locked up’ for the whole of the life of the wood even when we use it for furniture. What’s more, wood is a truly renewable resource because millions of new trees are planted each year. So when you choose carbon positive wood for furniture you’re also lending a helping hand in climate change.

Following is an exert from Terry Peabody’s “Transcript”.

Until now small and medium sized businesses haven’t had access to a complete and cost effective ‘one-stop shop’ for their packaging waste recycling, co-mingled recycling and general waste needs. Now all businesses have the opportunity to become fully engaged in the recycling process, helping to make an important contribution to the wellbeing of our planet.

One Queensland business already taking advantage of the Harvest program is furniture retailer ‘Bali at Home’, as General Manager Phil Dawson explained. “We’ve recycled our paper based waste with Transpacific for more than two years and with the introduction of Harvest, we’re now able to recycle approximately 95% of our entire packaging waste,” Phil said.

“Our business is geared towards sustainability. Our handmade furniture is made from wood taken only from commercial plantations and we employ energy saving practices on a daily basis, such as turning off all lights in our stores and warehouse.”

Terry Peabody said the support of all state Environmental Protection Agencies and Governments was critical. “The Harvest service is a really good example of business and government working together to stop packaging waste ending up in landfill, thereby saving our natural resources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting the environment,” he said.
